Campbell Business to offer finance major

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business will offer an undergraduate major in finance beginning with the 2015-16 academic year. The exciting new major will provide students an opportunity to learn how to analyze and successfully navigate financial markets.

Campbell Business dean Keith Faulkner says students that complete the 124-hour course of study will be positioned to succeed as leaders in financial planning, banks, real estate, insurance, credit and financial analysis, investments, and other leading financial fields.

“Our new finance degree is a welcome addition to our successful portfolio of majors at Campbell Business,” said Faulkner. “Our hands-on learning resources, combined with our expert faculty and connections in the business world, ensure that this will be a challenging yet beneficial area of study for students looking to excel as financial professionals in the business world.”

“Dean Faulkner and the faculty have created in the finance major the perfect addition to our strong undergraduate programs at Campbell Business,” said Campbell University Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Mark L. Hammond. “The First Citizens Bank Financial Markets & Wealth Management Technology Center will provide the perfect on-campus laboratory for experiential learning in finance — a critical element for the success of students studying investment principles and strategies.”

Students enrolled in the finance program will benefit from the school’s proposed state-of-the-art First Citizens Bank Financial Markets & Wealth Management Technology Center, which will simulate an investment firm environment and wealth management platform. Students will also have access to the latest tools and data used by business leaders, commercial banks, and financial advisors worldwide, such as the American Banks Association Bank Exec computer simulation. All students will study under the tutelage of accomplished professors with real world experience.

Topics covered throughout the finance program include commercial bank real estate and corporate lending, determining interest rates, calculating cash flows, determining asset and organizational values, risk analysis, financial statement analysis, financial asset valuation, and the impact of government regulations on corporations and their potential effect on profitability.

Campbell Business currently offers eight undergraduate degree programs, including classic business degrees in accounting, business administration, economics/economics pre-law, international business, and marketing. Innovative business programs include healthcare management, PGA Golf management, and the trust and wealth management program, which is the only of its kind in the country. Campbell Business also offers the BBA/MBA – 3/2 Option in which students can earn a bachelor of business administration and a master of business administration in five years, as well as masters programs in business administration and trust and wealth management. In September 2014 Campbell Business launched five international certificate programs with the University of Reading in Reading, England.
