The students of Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ physician assistant program celebrated National PA Week last week. National PA Week is held annually from October 6-12 and celebrates the PA profession.
The week kicked off with the program’s resident skeleton, Lloyd, making appearances across campus and providing information about a healthy lifestyle. Members of the community were encouraged to snap a photo with Lloyd and share it on various social media outlets.
“PA week is a chance to celebrate and promote physician assistants while simultaneously reaching out to the community about preventive care and a healthy lifestyle,” said Christine Ciszek, first year PA student and vice-president of the Wallace Student Society. “Although PAs play a unique and vital role in today's healthcare system, there are many misconceptions about the profession and PA week provides the ideal opportunity to increase awareness and educate the public about physician assistants.”
Many of the week’s activities and events were focused on service, education, fundraising, appreciation and awareness. These activities included a free blood pressure clinic, bake sale, and visits to the physician assistants who serve as preceptors for the program.
The week concluded with a cupcake celebration provided by the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ Alumni Association.
“We are so excited to welcome our PA students into the alumni family when the first class graduates in December,” said Director of Alumni Relations, Leigh Foushee. “With the addition of the PA graduates along with our pharmacy alumni, we’re producing dynamic healthcare providers right here in Buies Creek.”
