Five students from Campbell University participated in a regional ethics debate competition at the University of Richmond, Va. on Nov. 21. The Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl is an annual event, coordinated by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.
In three rounds of competition, the Campbell team debated the University of Miami, Clemson University and the University of Baltimore. At the beginning of the semester, teams received and prepared 15 cases, each involving thorny moral dilemmas that ranged from medical to political to interpersonal.
Team Coach Dr. Ken Vandergriff reports, “Every year we improve our method, style and strategy. This was a growth year. The experience the team received at Richmond will help tremendously in our preparation for next year.”
This year’s team members included Timothy Alexander (Religion major), Rebecca Donalson (Psychology), Peter Pyo (History and Government), Alexa Walrond (Biology and Pre-Med) and Brooke Whitley (Religion). The team coaches were Dr. Adam English and Dr. Ken Vandergriff, both from the Department of Religion and Philosophy.
