Campbell concert dedicated to Sanford residents

Buies Creek, N.C. — Campbell University’s annual choral concert, Christmas at Campbell, will be dedicated to long-time friends and supporters Mr. and Mrs. William Edgerton Byrd, of Sanford, N.C. The public concert, set for Monday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. in Turner Auditorium, will feature sacred and secular music and will showcase a variety of choral talent. The University Choir will anchor the program and will be joined by two other vocal ensembles–the Campbell Voices and the Campbell Children’s Choir–for a presentation designed to put the audience into the spirit of Advent and Christmas. Admission is free and open to the public. “The Christmas concert audiences will enjoy music that is sacred and secular, serious and light together in the same program,” said Campbell Choral Director Dr. Phillip Morrow. “We like to think of the Christmas concert as the kick-off to the Christmas season, as our gift to the community.”A land developer in Moore and Lee counties and former co-owner of Rod Sullivan, Inc. electrical supply company, William Edgerton Byrd and his wife Sadie Patterson Byrd have made significant contributions to the Campbell University community. Ed Byrd has served on Campbell boards for many years and is currently a member of the Presidential Board of Advisors. The Byrds have also supported Christian higher education through the establishment of numerous academic scholarships. In 1994, Ed Byrd received Campbell’s prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan award and he was awarded the 2000 Presidential Medallion. Ardent advocates for children, the Byrds have supported the Cameron Boys Home, a therapeutic camping facility under the direction of the Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina, and a number of initiatives for children through the Optimist Club of America.The Byrds are the parents of two children, Cynthia Byrd Howard and Jeffrey Byrd. They have five grandchildren.
