Buies Creek, N.C.—Campbell University’s annual “Christmas at Campbell,” a choral concert and reception for friends and benefactors of the university, was dedicated to Johnston County entrepreneur Luby Wood and his wife Catherine. Held Sunday, Nov. 31, in D. Rich Memorial Auditorium, the concert featured the University Choir, orchestra and the Campbell Voices ensemble. A reception followed on the concourse of the Gilbert Craig Gore Arena of the new John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
A trustee and benefactor of Campbell for many years, Luby Wood became a successful businessman by working his way up to a ranking position with Lowe’s Corporation while managing a thriving car wash chain and farming and land interests. Catherine Wood graduated from Rex Hospital nursing school and obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1989. She spent many years working as a surgical nurse at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The Woods have played an integral role in Campbell’s recent expansion. Their leadership and support of major building projects such as the Convocation Center and the Divinity School’s Robert and Anna Butler Chapel have been invaluable. The chapel sanctuary will be named in their honor.
“This special dedication to Luby and Catherine Wood honors their love, support and generosity as seen and felt throughout Campbell University,” said Campbell President Jerry M. Wallace.
