Campbell Divinity dean to deliver baccalaureate sermon

Buies Creek, N.C.–Dr. Michael Cogdill, founding dean of the Campbell Divinity School, will deliver the keynote address at the University’s baccalaureate service on Sunday, May 11, at 10 a.m. in Turner Auditorium of the D. Rich building on campus.A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Cogdill is a graduate of Mars Hill College, Southeastern Seminary and North Carolina State University. Prior to assuming his position as dean, Cogdill served as chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Campbell. In addition, he has served as pastor for two North Carolina churches and as interim pastor in a total of 15 churches.”My call as a minister and my work as dean are an extension of one calling, to serve God faithfully in church-related ministry,” said Cogdill.During his tenure at Campbell, Cogdill has received numerous honors, including Professor of the Year in 1992 and the dedication of Campbell’s “Pine Burr” yearbook in 1997. The recipients of both awards are selected by the student body.In addition to his duties as dean, Cogdill is also a full-time faculty member at the Divinity School where he holds the Lewis and Martha Barnes Tyner Chair of Bible.He is married to the former Gail Brownd of Raleigh, N.C. They are the parents of two children, Jason, an attorney in Winston-Salem, and Joya, a teacher in the Johnston County School system. They also have a grandson, Thomas.
