Buies Creek – Campbell University and the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina have agreed to establish a new Affiliated Relationship, effective Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008.
The new agreement acknowledges Campbell University as an autonomous, self-governing institution with the legal right to elect its own trustees. Previously, the Convention elected all of the University’s trustees.
Beginning in January 2012, students from churches affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina who choose to attend Campbell may apply directly to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina for the North Carolina Baptist Scholarship. For the 2008-09 academic year, these scholarships were valued at $1,500 for first-time, full-time freshmen. Currently, more than half of Campbell students come from Baptist families.
Campbell will continue to elect a significant number of trustees from churches affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. The University will also serve the churches of the Convention by sharing facilities, expertise, and activities that will enhance the ministry of the churches.
President Jerry Wallace says the University’s relationship with the Convention has helped to shape Campbell’s identity as a distinctive Christian university.
“Baptist churches and the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina have generously supported Campbell throughout its 122 year history, providing leadership, funds, students, inspiration, encouragement, and prayers,” said Wallace. “Campbell could not have survived as an academy or junior college without the support of North Carolina Baptists.”
