Buies Creek, N.C.- Campbell University’s 2009 Homecoming celebration, Oct. 23-24, promises to be an unforgettable event. Based on a theme from the Tim McGraw song, “Live Like You’re Dying,” Homecoming features some semi-death-defying pre-weekend events like indoor skydiving, bull riding and rock climbing. And for those who are still looking for adventure, there is the Homecoming football game, a battle between the Fighting Camels and the Butler University Bulldogs, Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
On Friday, Oct. 23, the ball gets rolling with campus tours at 2 p.m. and recognition of the 2009 Distinguished Alumni at a dinner at 6 p.m. Following the dinner, the Fighting Camels go up against Kennesaw State in volleyball at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 24, the Family and Consumer Science Reunion begins at 9 a.m. and the Golden Club reunion at 9:30 a.m. The tail gating area at Barker-Lane Stadium opens up for pre-game fellowship in anticipation of the football game at 1 p.m between Campbell and Butler University.
Prior to the game, the Homecoming Parade gets underway at 10 a.m. from the Taylor Bottt Rogers Fine Arts Center and travels down Leslie Campbell Avenue to the John W. Pope Convocation Center. A delicious pre-game barbeque featuring a faculty meet and greet will be held at Sauls Hall Murray Courtyard at 11 a.m.
On Friday and Saturday nights, guests can enjoy the southern fried musical, “The Cotton Patch Gospel,” an adaptation of Clarence Jordan’s translation of the Gospel of Matthew. The performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. in Ellis Theatre of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts building.
