Buies Creek — Campbell University will host two performances of the Tarradiddle Players for all 5th graders in the Harnett County School System on April 4, 2008.The performance is courtesy of the cARTwheels Program, an initiative of the North Carolina Arts Council and the Department of Cultural Resources to ensure that elementary students in every county in North Carolina are exposed to opera, theater and dance. Acting as a local partner, each host venue coordinates with schools to bring students to see the performance at no cost. The Tarradiddle Players is the resident touring company of the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. Founded 36 years ago, the Tarradiddle Players company was created to bring stage productions to audiences who might otherwise never see live theater. The Tarradiddle Players have since performed for over one million children across the Southeast. At Campbell, the Tarradiddle Players will be performing “The Nightingale,” an adaptation of the classic tale from Hans Christian Andersen. The fable tells of a young emperor who insists on having the best and most of everything. Yet, all the extravagant riches leave him empty, until he hears the pure song of a plain brown nightingale. cARTwheels also offers educational materials for teachers in order to expand the relevance and impact of each performance.
