For the second year in a row, Campbell University hosted the State Flag Football tournament on Oct. 16-18. Fifteen teams from 11 institutions participated in the event. Campbell teams included: No Longer Contagious, Unannounced, Militia and Wolverines. No Longer Contagious finished second and lost to NC A& T State University-A&T’s Finest.
“The weekend went very well thanks to our Athletic Department, Physical Plant and Student Life,” said Andy Shell, Director of Campus Recreation.
Senior Will Chancellor, sport management major, has been playing flag football for two years. His team Unannounced made it to the final four in the tournament.
“We couldn’t believe we made it that far in the tournament,” said Chancellor. “I enjoy flag football and the intramural program very much, and I hope that people realize how important the program is to the students here on campus.”
Matt Goodson, trust management major, played on the Wolverines. He has been playing since his freshman year.
“I started playing because it was a great way to meet some new people on campus,” he said.
The Wolverines made it to the first round of the playoffs where they were barely edged out by Shaw University.
“The best part of the day was seeing all four Campbell teams really do well and represent Campbell University,” said Goodson. “All four teams made it to the playoffs on the second day of the tournament. Two teams made it to the final four and one of those teams made it to the championship game.”
