BUIES CREEK — Campbell University has been accepted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. The society’s board unanimously accepted the University’s application for membership. Campbell University’s Chapter will be known as Gamma Sigma.
Alpha Sigma Lambda is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of scholarship and to recognition of nontraditional students pursuing higher education. The honor society and its member institutions recognize the special achievement of adult students who accomplish academic excellence while maintaining commitments to family and career.
“Campbell University, a pioneer in extending education beyond its main campus, began reaching out to nontraditional students in 1976,” said John Roberson, dean of Extended Programs at Campbell. “Across the decades, Campbell has helped thousands of adult learners achieve their educational goals. Many of our adults students have excelled in the classroom and deserve the recognition of membership in Alpha Sigma Lambda.”
Alpha Sigma Lambda, in partnership with its member colleges and universities, has made major contributions in the areas of student recruitment and retention of adult students. It is the only chapter-based honor society for nontraditional learners. Actively engaged in offering educational opportunities to the military community (a large portion of Campbell’s “non-traditional student” population), Campbell University has earned national recognition as a “military friendly” institution.
Campbell University will invite both student and faculty candidates to membership in the Society during the next several weeks and will hold its first induction ceremonies in April.
