Campbell University has announced it will partner with a Special Operations-oriented fund in an initiative to help educate children and widows of Special Operations members who have been killed or seriously wounded in service to their country.
The foundation, which prefers a low profile, is a qualified not-for-profit organization that has disbursed several million dollars on behalf of over 115 children and widows for scholarships and other educational assistance during the past 15 years. The fund recently reached agreements with several colleges and universities, including Campbell, to help those schools attract the children of fallen Special Operations men.
According to the agreement, the foundation will contact Campbell’s Admissions Office if it has candidates whom it believes deserve Campbell’s consideration for admission. The fund will pay the candidates’ travel expenses and for each candidate who enrolls at Campbell, the fund will provide a grant of up to $15,000 with the understanding that each student receives the balance of aid as determined by Campbell. In return, Campbell must invite the candidates to visit campus and meet an admissions officer, accept and admit candidates in accordance with university standards and serve candidates as any other students in matters of calculating need and merit.
“This is a win-win-win situation,” said the president of the foundation. “Campbell is introduced to students it might not otherwise meet, the students are presented with educational choices they might not otherwise have, and the fund has an opportunity to meet its charter in a manner that would make the students’ fathers proud.”
Dr. Mark L. Hammond, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Campbell observed, “Our new partnership with the foundation is visible evidence of Campbell’s long-standing support of meeting the educational needs of military personnel and their families. We are honored to be selected by the fund and pledge to do our very best in educating the family members of fallen Special Operations servicemen.”
