Buies Creek – Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business will launch two new undergraduate business majors in fall 2010: marketing and healthcare management.
The University Curriculum Council recently approved the addition of the BBA in Marketing and BBA in Healthcare Management (HCM).
The School of Business currently has a business administration degree with a concentration in Marketing. However, the new marketing degree track is designed to provide a more focused degree for students.
“Many students ask about marketing courses,” said Hawkins. “We believe this degree program will provide students a much stronger background in the sales and marketing side of the business world.”
Students will be required to take core business major requirements, as well as courses in marketing research, consumer behavior, retail management, global marketing and strategic marketing.
The addition of a degree in healthcare management is the result of an extensive feasibility study.
“There is a real need for people who can manage healthcare businesses like retirement centers, government agencies, hospitals and physicians offices,” said Hawkins. “There are a wide variety of job opportunities available to our graduates.”
In addition to core business requirements, students majoring in healthcare management will take courses specifically engineered for the healthcare industry – including organization, financial management, policy and law. A required internship will provide hands-on experience for students to prepare for today’s healthcare job market.
Campbell will join a limited number of institutions that offer certified undergraduate degrees in healthcare management. The healthcare management program will be accredited by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
In addition to the two new business degrees, the University Curriculum Council also approved the addition of a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education with teacher licensure for the fall of 2010.
