RALEIGH – Campbell Law School advocates Tom Harvey ’21 and Michael Logan ’21 took the title of co-champions this weekend in the 2020 ABA Regional Negotiations Competition. The team was coached by Assistant Dean of Student Life and Pro Bono Opportunities Evin Grant’ 16.

Hosted by the University of Georgia, the competition was held virtually due to COVID-19. The regional competition consisted of two preliminary rounds, and the top four teams advanced to the final round.

The judges in the final round praised Harvey and Logan, saying they “had good interplay and teamwork”, were “excellent listeners,” “were dynamic, and exhibited what it meant to be a lawyer,” Grant said after the competition.

“They were amazing during the entire competition. It was a pleasure coaching them. They have tremendous skill and talent which made them easy to coach. I merely offered guidance and support — they took the reins and knocked the ball out of the park.”

As a result of their win over the weekend, Harvey and Logan will compete in the ABA Negotiations Competition’s National Finals in February 2021.

The ABA Law Student Division Negotiations Competition is designed to promote interest among law students in legal negotiation, while providing a forum to improve negotiating skills through simulations of a series of legal problems. Teams consists of two JD candidates attending the same ABA-approved law school negotiating on behalf of their client to resolve a dispute or negotiate an agreement.
