Campbell Law announces 2023 competitive scholarship recipients

RALEIGH — Campbell Law School Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced that Imani Henderson, Christian Ray, Haydn Bauer and Margaret Ireland are the 2023 recipients of the law school’s four highly prestigious, full-tuition competitive scholarships. 

“I am thrilled to announce the recipients of our competitive scholarships from the incoming class of 2026,” Leonard said. “Our law school is committed to doing all we can to make sure that every qualified student that wants to use the law as a means to serve others has the opportunity to do so.”

Henderson, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, is the recipient of the Ben & Patrice Thompson Achievement Scholarship, which is offered annually to one high-achieving student who has overcome significant obstacles in life, such as socio-economic or educational hardships, disabilities or other major challenges.  A full-time associate recruiter in Construction Management at Actalent, Henderson graduated from Elon University with a bachelor’s degree in international business with a Spanish minor. In 2022, she participated in the Council On International Educational Exchange (CIEE)’s Teach Abroad Program in Madrid, Spain.

Ray, who hails from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the recipient of the Cheshire Schneider Advocacy Scholarship, which is offered annually to one student with demonstrable success in advocacy programs such as debate or mock trial during high school and/or college experiences. Ray served as the public relations chair and treasurer for the Global Business Brigades at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), served as secretary for the Association for Information Systems UNCC Chapter and volunteered as a tutor for Helps Education Fund. Ray  graduated summa cum laude from the Business Honors Program at UNC-Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in business analytics. 

Bauer, who calls Boone, North Carolina, home, is the recipient of the Janette Soles Nelson Public Service Scholarship, which is offered annually to one exceptionally qualified student with plans to practice law in service to the public. An administrative assistant at Templeton Properties LP and former intern for the 35th Prosecutorial District’s District Attorney’s Office, Bauer earned a bachelor’s degree in multi-disciplinary history with a minor in philosophy from Appalachian State University.  

Ireland, who comes to Campbell Law from Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the recipient of the Leary & Joy Davis Leadership Scholarship, which is offered annually to one student with demonstrated leadership skills and the potential to become a leader in the law.  Captain Ireland is currently serving as an Officer-in-Charge at Detachment 1, 4th Space Company, 1st Space Battalion, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Ireland earned a bachelor’s degree in English and international history with an engineering concentration in computer science from the United States Military Academy.
