RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law co-hosted a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program clinic alongside Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice and the North Carolina Justice Center on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The program included an overview of eligibility requirements, documentation issues, and the application progress. Attorneys from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice assisted with a final review of documents to support DACA applicability, while members of the Campbell Law Hispanic Law Student Association assisted in initial intake and document evidentiary review.
Approximately 25 individuals were provided assistance throughout the day.

Justice Center and Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice,” said Campbell Law Director of Student Life & Pro Bono Opportunities Mary Charles Branch. “Service plays a large role in the education of our students at Campbell Law because we view the practice of law as a calling to serve others. Hosting this event goes hand-in-hand with that belief.”
United States Department of Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano announced last June that certain people who enter the United States as children and meet several key guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and would then be eligible for work authorization.
The DACA program allows eligible young people to stay in the United States to work and attend school instead of being deported. Individuals who can demonstrate through variable documentation that they meet program guidelines will be considered for deferred action. Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis under the guidelines established by Secretary Napolitano’s memorandum.
