RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced the establishment of the Stubbs Bankruptcy Clinic. Named after prominent North Carolina bankruptcy and civil litigation attorney Trawick H. “Buzzy” Stubbs, Jr., the clinic will begin operation with the spring 2015 semester.
“We are excited to add the Stubbs Bankruptcy Clinic to our portfolio,” said Leonard. “This new clinic will provide meaningful and practical experience for our students in a critical area of law within our local community, and it is only fitting that it is named after one of the leading bankruptcy litigators in the history of our state.”
The Stubbs Bankruptcy clinic will be supervised by an adjunct faculty member and will receive referrals from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and Legal Aid of North Carolina. The clinic will be hosted within the U.S. Bankruptcy Court at the historic Century Station Federal Building on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh, where Leonard previously presided as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
“We are proud to be affiliated with Campbell Law School,” said Stubbs. “Dean Leonard has been a leader in the bankruptcy field for many years, and we are looking forward to making the clinic successful.”
Leonard began pursuing the idea of expanding the law school’s clinical offerings this past January. Campbell Law raised more than $250,000 to fund the effort, with several leading members of the bankruptcy bar contributing funds and making sufficient pledges.
In addition to the new clinical offering, Campbell Law also operates the Juvenile Justice Project and the Senior Law Clinic. Other potential clinical programs are currently being explored.
