RALEIGH, N.C. –The Campbell Law School Senior Law Clinic and Health Law Society co-hosted a discussion on the Affordable Care Act on Tuesday, April 3. Adam Searing, director of the North Carolina Health Access Coalition at the North Carolina Justice Center, served as guest speaker.
Searing spoke at length and fielded questions from Campbell Law students, faculty, and staff members on a range of issues related to the Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate and the recent Supreme Court hearings. Searing also discussed parts of the Affordable Care Act that are already in place and functioning, as well as the effects of a potential striking down of the law by the Supreme Court.
“In law school, students focus a lot on individual cases,” said Campbell Law Senior Law Clinic Director Roger Manus. “We always need to be reminded about the importance of public policy issues and decisions that are made, and the impact on our clients and future clients.”
“Since this personally impacts how a lot of folks get health insurance, whether that’s on their own or under the health plan of a parent, it doesn’t get much more important than this,” said Searing.
