Campbell Law Professor Matt Sawchak appointed as a member of the American Law Institute (ALI)

RALEIGH — Professor Matt Sawchak, practitioner in residence at Campbell Law School, has been appointed as a new member of the American Law Institute (ALI). 
 
The ALI is the leading independent U.S. organization that produces scholarly work to clarify, modernize and improve the law.  ALI members are judges, professors and lawyers who are selected from confidential nominations.

“I am delighted to welcome this remarkable group of lawyers, academics and judicial officers to the Institute,” said ALI President David F. Levi.  “The American Law Institute is an active institution that depends on the talent, wisdom and diverse perspectives of its members for its continued activity and excellence.  I look forward to the thoughtful contributions of these new members.”

Sawchak has taught at Campbell Law since 2011.  His scholarship focuses on antitrust, trade regulation and federalism.  
 
He serves as the Solicitor General of North Carolina.  Over his 29-year career in practice, he has handled cases that range from antitrust enforcement proceedings to First Amendment disputes.  He is a board-certified specialist in appellate practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.  He is also the chairman of the editorial board of the Antitrust Law Journal, a leading peer-reviewed journal on antitrust and competition law.  
 
Sawchak is an honors graduate of Harvard College and Duke Law School.  He was the editor in chief of the Duke Law JournalHe clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas when Justice Thomas served on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
