Campbell Law Students Prepare Thanksgiving Meal for Mission

Raleigh, NC – Members of the Campbell Law School Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) did their part to make Thanksgiving more enjoyable for individuals served by the Raleigh Rescue Mission by preparing turkeys for the Rescue Mission’s ‘Gobbles to Go’ program. Started in 2003, ‘Gobbles to Go’ relies on volunteers in the community to prepare, assemble, and deliver over one thousand single-serving turkey dinners across Raleigh. Meals on Wheels recipients and others who call the ‘Gobbles to Go’ hotline during the week before Thanksgiving are eligible for the service.

“Several years ago we started our ‘Gobbles to Go’ program to provide holiday meals for those who were housebound, elderly or infirm to help reach more people in need in our community,” said director of volunteer ministryHolly Cookof Raleigh Rescue Mission.

Members of Campbell’s Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) chapter are quite familiar with lending a helping hand in Raleigh. The Law School’s HLSA chapter was recognized in September by the Hispanic National Bar Association as its 20101 Law Student Organization of the Year. The group was recognized for its commitment to the Hispanic students at Campbell Law, bringing in relevant, high profile speakers to the school, and hosting events to raise funds for the Wake County (N.C.) Boys and Girls club as well as other causes important to the local Hispanic community.

“The leadership of our Hispanic Law Student Association continue to offer extraordinary service to the citizens of Raleigh and beyond,” said Dean Melissa Essary. “The law school community—students, faculty and staff—are blessed with so much, and I am deeply grateful for the generosity of our students to serve others with their time and talents.”
