RALEIGH, N.C. –A pair of teams from Campbell Law School enjoyed tremendous success at the UC Davis Asylum & Refugee Law National Moot Court Competition, Feb. 3-4, in Davis and Sacramento, Calif., where the final rounds were held in the imposing federal court house. Across a highly competitive field featuring teams from 18 different law schools, one Campbell Law team took second-place overall, while another advanced into the quarterfinals. Two Campbell Law students also garnered individual honors.
“Our performance this year just builds on our strong reputation at this specialized competition,” said Campbell Law Professor Lynn Buzzard, who led the delegation. “Both Campbellteams were well prepared, unfazed by tough questions from the bench, and passionate advocates. It’s a high energy and exhaustive process, preparing and then competing, but worth it; an unforgettable experience.”
Laura Askins, Michael Pierrie and Thomas Robbins reached the finals and collected second-place overall, while Michael Goode, Jenifer Wolfe and John Petree advanced to the quarterfinals.
Of more than 50 competing oralists, Wolfe (second-best overall) and Pierrie (third-best overall) were both awarded for their performances.
Campbell Law has a history of impressive top performances at the competition, with two teams appearing in last year’s semifinals and one team taking second-best brief. In Campbell Law’s first appearance at the competition a team made it to the finals, collected best brief, and won both best and second-best oralist.
