RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law School will host North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Sam Ervin and Supreme Court of North Carolina Associate Justice Paul Newby for a judicial forum at noon on Thursday, Oct. 18. The event is open to the Campbell Law community, as well as the public. Justice Newby and Judge Ervin are both candidates for the Supreme Court of North Carolina in the upcoming November election.
Each candidate will have an opportunity to address the audience and explain their platform during the hour-long forum. Candidates will also field questions from Campbell Law Professor of Law Richard Bowser, who will serve as moderator for the forum.
Judge Ervin has served on the North Carolina Court of Appeals since 2009, deciding appeals in both criminal and civil cases. While with the Court of Appeals, he has participated in more than 900 court decisions and written more than 325 opinions.
Justice Newby began serving on the Supreme Court of North Carolina in 2004. He has participated as a member of the North Carolina Courts Commission, served as an instructor for the North Carolina Judicial College and various continuing legal education courses, and as an adjunct professor at Campbell Law School teaching State Constitutional Law and Appellate Practice.
