RALEIGH – The Norman A. Wiggins School of Law and the Wake County Bar Association have partnered to create a student membership program for law school students that will allow them to experience the privileges and professional development opportunities afforded to WCBA members while providing an avenue for networking, engagement and interaction.
The program begins with the 2012-13 academic year.
“We are very pleased to announce this partnership with the Wake County Bar Association,” said Campbell Law Interim Dean Keith Faulkner. “The leadership of the Wake County Bar has engaged our law school since the day we announced our move to Raleigh, and Campbell Law students have benefited tremendously from having local lawyers active and involved with the law school. This new partnership further solidifies the great relationship between Campbell Law and the WCBA, and it offers an exceptional opportunity for our students.”
Student members will have access to continuing legal education events, the annual family picnic and all breakfast meetings. They will receive the WCBA Bar Flyer throughout the year and will be eligible for WCBA deals with local vendors.
Student members will be able to participate in golf and tennis tournaments at cost, as well as bowling, softball and basketball leagues. The WCBA will also create non-voting positions to allow for student members to serve on several committees.
“With the arrival of Campbell Law School in Wake County several years ago, the Wake County Bar Association realized that we had an opportunity to begin promoting our tenets of professionalism and civility to law students by offering a type of membership to fit their needs,” said WCBA President Ted Edwards. “We updated our bylaws and created a law student membership through the work of our Membership Services Committee, and we’re excited to get the involvement of not only Campbell Law students, but also other current law students residing in Wake County.”
Membership in the WCBA will require an annual $25 fee. Law students that hold memberships in the WCBA during all three years of law school will receive a 25 percent discount on WCBA membership for their first two years as a practicing attorney immediately following graduation. The program is open to all law students that either reside in Wake County or attend an ABA-accredited law school located in Wake County.
