RALEIGH — The first-year law students entering the 2021 academic year at Campbell Law School represent a significant milestone. These 190 1L students come from 77 different undergraduate institutions and 21 different states, including California, New York and Florida.

It’s also the most diverse class to enter the law school with 18 percent of its members identifying as students of color.

“Today is my favorite day of the year,” Dean J. Rich Leonard told the incoming students during his welcome on Aug. 6.

Here’s the Class of 2024 by the numbers:

  • 49 students are from out of state
  • 60.7% women
  • 8 served in military
  • 190 traditional students (i.e. full-time)
  • 15 Campbell FLEX students

The majority of incoming students call N.C. State University, the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, Campbell University and UNC-Wilmington their alma maters in that order.

Orientation for Campbell Law’s newest students included attending customary instructional meetings with faculty and staff, including participating in the Campbell Advantage orientation program.

On Aug. 6, the new students and their families enjoyed a social BBQ dinner hosted by the Dean at Haywood Hall.

On Aug. 13, the students took the Professionalism Oath delivered by Wake County District Court Judge Damion McCullers ‘03 in the morning followed by the Dean’s annual afternoon Campbell Law Court Crawl — a tour of all of the local, state and federal courts in downtown Raleigh.
