On March 13, seventy-five MBA students from the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business gathered along with alumni and financial executives from the greater Raleigh community for an in-depth look at a problem plaguing the financial services sector – a lack of consumer trust. Studies have shown this to be one of the least trusted industries in the eyes of U.S. consumers.

The Business School brought a roundtable of industry experts to Campbell’s Raleigh Law School campus to talk about how financial leaders and firms can build and re-build the trust of their clients and the general public.

This event was part of the year-long Business Roundtable Series in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Campbell MBA Program. “Promoting Trust in the Financial Service Sector” was moderated by Dr. Karen Mishra, Visiting Associate Professor of Business. Panelists included:

  • Juan Austin, Director of Corporate Philanthropy and Community Relations, Wells Fargo (and Campbell University alum)
  • Professor David Butler, Campbell Professor of Trust and Wealth Management
  • Peter Gwaltney, President & CEO, NC Bankers Association
  • Kevin Lee, Campbell Professor of Law
  • Aneil Mishra, Thomas D. Arthur Distinguished Professor of Leadership, East Carolina University
  • Brian Vannoy, Chief Credit Risk Officer, Allegacy Credit Union

The panel discussion was followed by breakout sessions in which attendees explored some topics of the day – including FinTech, Banking, and Trust & Wealth Management – in more depth.  After the breakout sessions, panelists reported back on these small-group discussions.  And at the end of the event, both student and executive attendees rated the Roundtable an enlightening event.
