Dr. Brian Kessler has begun his one-year term as president of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Kessler, dean of the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, was installed during the ACOFP’s 61st Annual Convention & Scientific Seminars, held recently in New Orleans, a news release says.

“I am honored to be named ACOFP president,” Kessler said in a statement. “My term will be marked by the ACOFP Foundation’s Family Medicine Forward campaign to support early career osteopathic physicians and the 75th anniversary of ACOFP.

Founded in 1950, ACOFP is a community of more than 26,000 current and future family physicians that champions osteopathic principles and supports its members by providing resources such as education, networking and advocacy, while putting patients first, the release says.

Kessler says he’s committed to serving the more than 26,000 physician, resident and student members of ACOFP and the profession it serves. Kessler was twice named to the Best Doctors America by Cleveland Magazine and has earned several ACOFP awards, including Outstanding Paper Crest and Distinguished Service. He served on the ACOFP Board of Governors since 2015 and was named an ACOFP fellow, receiving the distinguished fellow designation.

“I look forward to working with our ACOFP leaders and membership to honor the history of the organization, celebrate the great work being done today, and prepare for the future of ACOFP and osteopathic family medicine.”
