Campbell organizations raise money for S.A.F.E of Harnett County

Buies Creek–Campbell University’s Mabel Powell English Club recently presented a check in the amount of $210 to S.A.F.E. of Harnett County, an advocacy organization for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The club raised $140 from the proceeds of a bake sale and Campbell’s Student Government Association matched half that amount.”We received contributions from a lot of people and many of them just made donations without purchasing anything,” said Luke Morales, president of the Mabel Powell English Club.”It was pretty amazing for poor college kids to come up with money without getting anything in return,” added club member Stephanie Ricker.According to Professor Nathan Salsbury, advisor to the club, everyone pitched in to make the fundraiser a success. “I’d like to thank everyone for their effort and support,” he said.S.A.F.E. of Harnett County, Inc. is an individual, private, non-profit organization that provides advocacy and support for victims of abuse and their families. Services include a 24-hour hotline, emergency support, court room assistance, housing assistance, shelter and support groups, among others.The Mabel Powell English Club has also conducted other community service projects such as reading to the residents of Harnett Manor Nursing Home.
