Campbell Pharmacy Students to offer health information at upcoming event

Erwin, N.C. – With some assistance from Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, participants at Erwin’s second annual Earth Day Celebration will not only be educated about going green, but also making healthier lifestyle choices.

On April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the College of Pharmacy will host five different booths to increase health awareness at the Cape Fear River Park through Campbell’s Operation Inasmuch.

Available information will include nutrition, diabetes, hypertension and medications, with blood glucose levels and blood pressure checks offered to the public. All services are free.

Faculty members will be on hand to answer medication-related questions at an “Ask the Pharmacist” feature and participants will be able to receive help organizing medications at a Personal Medical Record station.

“Our hope is providing a good service for the community,” said Melissa Stancil, Student Affairs Coordinator for the College of Pharmacy. “We’re excited about the opportunity.”

Undergraduates from the Pre-Pharmacy Club will also be involved with Operation Inasmuch through assisting in clean up at the park.

Last year, Erwin’s first annual Earth Day Celebration had 200 to 300 in attendance; this year, organizers hope to see an attendance of over 300.
