Dr. Constantine Kledaras, Professor and Chair of the department of Social Work at Campbell University, has been inducted into the National Association of Social Workers Pioneer Hall of Fame.Dr. Kledaras was notified of his induction by Dr. Elizabeth J. Clark, President of NASW Foundation and Executive Director of NASW on Jan. 15, 2008. Dr. Kledaras’ peers nominated him for the award in recognition of his accomplishments and contribution to the social work profession.”I am delighted and honored that people would think me worthy of this reward,” said Kledaras. Prior to coming to Campbell University in 1994, Dr. Kledaras was a tenured full professor in the School of Social Work at East Carolina University. He earned his B.A. degree at Duke University, Durham, NC; his MSW degree at UNC-Chapel Hill; and his doctorate at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. He is a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina and has both ACSW and BCD credentials. He is an active member of numerous social work organizations, including the Council on Social Work Education and the NASW-NC.Reflecting on his time in the classroom, Kledaras said he hopes his students see the importance of having compassion for those in need.”I hope students can see the pain and suffering of others and work as professionals to provide help to the oppressed and disadvantaged groups of people,” he said.
