BUIES CREEK – Campbell University has once again been recognized in the top tier of Best Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report.
The rankings are part of the magazine’s 350-page “2012 America’s Best Colleges” edition, which will be on newsstands Sept. 20.
According to the report, the rankings are based on factors such as graduation rate, academic excellence, selectivity of admissions process, class size, student/faculty ratio, percentage of freshmen who return for a second year and how the school is assessed by other college leaders. The rankings include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, placing each school into a category based on its mission (research university or national liberal arts college) and — for universities offering a range of master’s programs and colleges focusing on undergraduate education at the bachelor’s level without a particular emphasis on the liberal arts — by location (North, South, Midwest and West).
The magazine gathers areas related to academic excellence, with each indicator assigned a weight (expressed as a percentage) based on U.S. News’ judgments about which measures of quality matter most. The colleges are ranked based on their composite weighted score.
Campbell ranked 28th of the approximately 135 ranked and unranked regional universities in the South.
