Buies Creek, N.C.-Campbell University will hold its New Student Orientation I on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27. Over 1,000 are expected to converge on campus for two days of instruction and activities designed to give them a slice of Campbell life.
“We are honored to have the incoming freshmen class on campus for Orientation. Extensive planning and preparation have gone into making this a successful event,” said Vice President for Admissions Jason Hall.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Friday in the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center, with the Opening Session held in Turner Auditorium of the D. Rich Memorial Building. President Jerry Wallace, Dr. John Roberson, vice president for Enrollment Management and Marketing, and representatives from Campbell Athletics will be featured at this session.
After a lunch of barbeque and fried chicken in the new John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center, students will hear from Dr. Mark Hammond, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Dwaine Greene, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The administrators will present their slant on being a successful student at Campbell.
Later that afternoon, representatives from Support Services will be on hand to explain their responsibilities and answer students’ questions. They include Academic Advisement; Computing Services; Counseling Services and Campus Health.
Following the “Meet the Deans” session from 4-5 p.m., students will attend the President’s Reception in the Convocation Center.
After hours or “Night Owl” activities begin at 9:30 p.m. and include a performance by magician Peter Boie; a classic movie presentation, “The Goonies;” and a “Night Owl” party with homemade ice cream provided by Sunny Sky’s.
Saturday kicks off with a Residence Hall and Commuter Students meeting from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Students meet with department heads from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and gather for a question and answer session from 11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m..
