Campbell receives science education grant from Burroughs Wellcome

Buies Creek–The Campbell University School of Pharmacy’s Science Outreach group has received a grant to fund its Science Education Outreach program for Harnett County students. The three-year $126,290 grant will be applied to programs that provide science enrichment education and exploration through hands-on activities and seminars. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund believes that this educational approach is a highly effective way to increase students’ understanding and appreciation of the scientific process. The grant is a cooperative project between the School of Pharmacy, the Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Campbell. Harnett County students, grades 9-12, are eligible to attend workshop/seminars held five times a year at Campbell. In addition, the grant will fund a workshop for Harnett County middle and high school science teachers to be held in the summer of 2009.”We are extremely pleased to have received this grant for a second time,” said Emily Bloom, associate director of Education Outreach for the Campbell School of Pharmacy. “It’s a great way for high school students to come and experience a taste of what a career in science can offer.”For more information, visit the Campbell Web site at https://www.campbell.edu/faculty/ or call Emily Bloom at 910-893-1842.
