Campbell student wins national acting and modeling competition

Orlando, Fla. — Campbell University senior Peter Pyo went from competing in college ethics bowls to winning a national competition for actors and models, and he still has more to achieve.

Pyo, a government and Spanish major from Fayetteville, N.C., won the Actors, Models and Talent for Christ competition in Orlando, Fla , Jan. 4-9, in both the acting and modeling categories for men’s fashion. AMTC is a Christ centered talent agency that embraces Christian values in an industry that is said to desperately need them. The national AMTC competition exposes potential actors and models to industry agents and organizations that can open the door to a professional career.

But Pyo, who is extremely excited about winning the competition, sees a professional career as an actor, model and musician as just one more stepping stone to his real goal—using his notoriety to lead souls to Christ.

“The real goal of all of this acting and modeling is that it will oneday be the path to a nationally-known or even internationally-known music ministry,” he said.

A composer and lyricist, Pyo produces his own CDs in a home studio and created and leads a collegeworship event called LiFT at Grace Community Church in Angier. As a student at Campbell, he maintains a 3.967 grade point average and, in addition to being an ethicsbowl competitor for three years, was a freshman member of the Campus Activities Board Concert Committee and served as secretary of the Student Government Association as a sophomore.

To win the AMTC competition for overall acting and overall men’s fashion, Pyo had to compete in eight events, including Fashion Runway, Film Audition, TV Commercial, Swimsuit, Scene Read, Monologue and Singing/Songwriting. He would often have only minutes to learn the lines for a scene.

Since returning from the competition, Pyo has received 26 calls from nationally known agencies such as Ford Models and CESD, a global talent representation company. He has just signed a modeling contract with Marilyn’s Model and Talent Agency in Greensboro,N.C.,where he is also negotiating a television and film contract.  Upon graduation in May, Pyo plans to pursue stardom and Christianministry fulltime.

“I’m a flexible person and I’ll go wherever God wants me to go,” he said. “Acting and modeling will enable me to have broad market appeal because I’ll be known in the entertainment industry as a sincere and genuine person. I feel so blessed because I know that I’ve been given talent that will not only provide for me and my family, but for my ministry.”

Pyo is the son of Lt. Col. Kwon Pyo, an Army chaplain currently stationed in Korea , and Cindy Pyo, a professor at Fayetteville Technical Community College . He has two sisters, Elise, a sophomore at Evangel University in Missouri , and Leslie, a junior at Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville .
