Campbell team takes Carolinas Cup

Buies Creek, N.C.—Campbell University PGA Golf Management students beat out four other universities to win the 2011 Carolinas Cup on Sunday, March 20 at N.C. State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh.

The team recorded a 12-shot victory playing against Coastal Carolina University, North Carolina State University, Clemson University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Campbell Team lineup included seniors Charlie Gross, of Raleigh; Steven Hamby, of Charlotte, Daniel Soehren, of Glendale Heights, Illinois; andChris Speaker, of Owings, Maryland.; juniors Jared Morrow, of Charlotte, and Andrew Kegarise, of Charlotte; and sophomores Paul Howell, of Wilson; and Taylor Ray, of Durham.

“This is the third year in a row our students have won the Carolinas Cup,” said Ken Jones, Director of the PGA Golf Managementprogram. “Campbell PGA Golf Management students have won five competitions in the past four years with two Jones Cup titles. I believe this is a sentim­­­ent to the quality of player in the program and thedevelopment of players through our professional staff.”

 PGA Golf Management is a major offered through Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business and its Department of Business Administration and Economics. The innovative four and one-half-year program offers a Bachelor of BusinessAdministration (BBA) degree and sixteen months of practical work experience in the golf industry. PGA Golf Management students pursue their passion for golf while receiving a career-oriented education.

PGA Golf Management students at Campbell take golf-related courses from the very first semester. The materials and objectives for these courses come directly from the Professional Golfer’s Association of America (PGA) and its Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. Upon completion of the PGA GolfManagement Program, graduates are eligible for membership in the PGA.
