Campbell to create pathway for teacher assistants to earn degrees, certifications

BUIES CREEK, North Carolina— Campbell University’s School of Education and Adult & Online Education academic division are partnering to create a pathway for teacher assistants (TAs) to earn their undergraduate degree.

The initiative was implemented in response to the needs of the public education system in North Carolina. It will enable TAs to complete a four-year degree, attain their teaching certificates, and transition to the role of a classroom teacher.

Harnett County Schools is the first school system to commit to the program and will work with TAs to provide flexible opportunities for them to balance work and school responsibilities with field experiences.

Teacher assistant students may be eligible to receive a $100 per hour institutional scholarship for the online program.

“Campbell University Online is thrilled to be in partnership with Harnett County Schools’ efforts to help teacher assistants and other staff members reach their goals of a college education and ultimately teacher certification,” said Dr. John Roberson, dean of Adult & Online Education and executive assistant to the president.

“The university’s commitment to this initiative extends beyond providing just the instruction and includes scholarships for Harnett County Schools’ staff who enroll in the online program. This effort will profoundly and positively impact primary and secondary education in Harnett County and beyond.”

The School of Education and Adult & Online Education will host a dinner admissions event on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m.
