BUIES CREEK — Campbell University’s Department of History, Criminal Justice and Political Science will hold its 1st Annual Women in Criminal Justice event on Friday, Feb. 14, that will feature a panel discussion with five women who work in the field of criminal justice.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in Turner Auditorium.
The five women participating in the panel discussion are Jessica Bullock, of the Cumberland County Probation and Parole office; Marion Vandergrift, of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation; Bianca Harris, of the N.C. Correctional Institution for Women; Lauren Yesh, of the Raleigh Police Department; and Suzanne Matthews, of the Harnett County District Attorney’s Office.
They will share their background and discuss their impressions of being a woman in their career field. After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for questions for the participants from the audience.
Catherine Cowling, director of Campbell’s criminal justice program, said the purpose of the Women in Criminal Justice event is to educate interested parties on the benefits and challenges of being a woman who works in criminal justice.
“We want to use this event to highlight women who have made great contributions to the field of criminal justice and to inspire other women to enter the field,” Cowling said.
