BUIES CREEK – Campbell University’s Wiggins Memorial Library will mark National Library Week 2013 April 15 to 19 by holding a variety of events throughout the week that support the theme “Community Matters.”
One of the highlights of the week will be the return of the Edible Book Festival on Monday, April 15, from noon to 2 p.m., when Campbell students, faculty and staff will work individually or in groups to create an “edible book” inspired by literature. New this year will be a Poetry Jam on Tuesday, April 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., when students, faculty and staff can read their original poems or those of their favorite poets. The week will also feature a scavenger hunt, a “READ” photo session, a game night and workshops; and donated books, DVDs and CDs will be collected throughout the week at the Circulation Desk and be given to area prisons for distribution to individuals who are incarcerated.
“The events we are hosting during National Library Week allow us to actively engage the Campbell community and pique students’ curiosity and exploration of library resources,” said Brooke J. Taxakis, reference and instruction librarian at Wiggins, and Elizabeth Dobbins, circulation manager at Wiggins, in a joint statement. “While some students may only come in to the library for a quiet study space or to check out a DVD, we want them to get to know their librarians and utilize our broad collection of resources, like personalized research consultations or workshops on navigating databases and citations.
“Yes, we are an academic library; but we’re the students’ library, and we want every student to feel comfortable using it.”
