Campbell to hold Relay for Life event

Buies Creek, N.C.—More than 30 teams made up of Campbell University organizations will take part in a Relay for Life event, “Relay for Life at Campbell,” on Friday, April 8, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the University’s Academic Circle.

As part of the Relay for Life of Harnett County campaign, Campbell has participated in Relay for Life for the past five years, sponsoring a celebration packed with fun, food and entertainment. This year’s theme is “Life would be a lot Sweeter without Cancer,” and the Campbell teams plan to transform the Academic Circle into a life-size version of CandyLandwith each team campsite based on a candy theme.

“Relay for Life at Campbell” begins with an opening ceremony and Survivor’s Lap at 3 p.m. At 9 p.m., a luminary ceremony, featuring luminarias, lanterns and torches, will be held to honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease. And at 10 p.m., a moving closing ceremony and awards presentation are scheduled.

Nancy Wright, chairman of Relay for Life of Harnett County, said participating in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing experience.

“It gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones and fight back against the disease,” she said. “Relay for Life is an event that fulfills that need for belonging we all have.”
