Buies Creek, N.C.- The Campbell University Campus Activities Board will hold a Relay for Life event on Friday, April 3, from 3 p.m.-11 p.m. on the Academic Circle in front of the D. Rich Building. The community is invited to participate.
Sara Eddleton, Graduate Assistant for Campus Activities at Campbell, said students and staff wanted to support this great cause, help save lives and help those battling cancer.
“This is our fourth year of doing Relay For Life here at Campbell and each year it gets bigger and better,” Eddleton said. “We have over 600 students and staff signed up to participate and we are so excited to celebrate, remember, and fight back.”
One out of every three people will be diagnosed with cancer during his or her lifetime. The funds raised by the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events save lives by supporting cutting edge cancer research and early detection and prevention education.
One representative from each team will be participating in the relay at all times, Eddleton explained. The teams will also be selling items such as Relay For Life Jewelry, canned drinks and hamburgers and hot dogs. Relays won’t be the only activities participants can enjoy. At 5 p.m. a costume pageant will be held featuring team members dressed as famous movie stars. The “stars” will also pass through the crowd to solicit donations. In addition, a free movie, “Patch Adams,” starring Robin Williams, will be screened at 8 p.m. on the Academic Circle. The proceeds from all of the activities will be donated to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Student Activities co-chairs Jill Ewing and Amy Broderick were especially instrumental in planning the event.
