Campbell to host Sigma Alpha Omega’s 2015 national convention

BUIES CREEK — Campbell University’s Alpha-Xi chapter of the Sigma Alpha Omega sorority was told to “dream big” when it came to what they wanted for their chapter. Now, one of those “big dreams” has become a reality with Alpha-Xi being selected to host the 2015 National Sigma Alpha Omega Convention.

How did Alpha Xi President Kendall Tart react when she found out Campbell had been selected to host the 2015 national convention? “I was flabbergasted,” Tart said, “but we are honored to have the opportunity to host the convention at Campbell and look forward to having the sisters of Sigma Alpha Omega in Buies Creek.”

The June 4-7, 2015, event will bring sisters from all over the United States to Campbell for four days of workshops, business meetings, worship and fellowship. Each year the host chapter picks a verse and theme for the event. The 2015 convention’s theme will be “Walk like an Egyptian” and feature Campbell’s mascot, Gaylord. The verse for the convention will be Proverbs 3:15: “She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare to her.”

SAO became the first fully chartered undergraduate Greek organization at Campbell in November 2013. Dennis Bazemore, Campbell’s vice president for student life, said he is proud of the work the SAO sisters have done and is excited that the chapter has been given the opportunity to host the convention.

“These sisters have worked diligently to be chartered and their service, leadership and goodwill have made our university very proud of them,” he said. “We look forward to the many chapters of Sigma Alpha Omega being on our campus next summer.”

The chapter is busy starting to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year as well as the convention. Follow the chapter on Twitter (@SAOCU), Instagram (@campbellsao), and Facebook page (Sigma Alpha Omega-Campbell University). — By Allyson Brake
