The Campbell University Choral Society welcomes Christmas with a concert of music related to the season. The Choral Society Christmas concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. in Butler Chapel on the University campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program consists of three works, “Gloria,” by English composer John Rutter, “Fantasia on Christmas Carols,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and “Christmas Cantata: The Incarnation,” by American composer K. Lee Scott.
Baritone David John Hailey, a 2008 graduate of the Campbell Music program will be the featured soloist. Hailey is a student at Duke Divinity School.
“The cantata is a wonderfully fresh telling of the wonder of the Christmas story,” said Dr. Phillip Morrow, conductor of the group and associate professor of music at Campbell. “And the ‘Gloria’ is energetic and exciting. It’s wonderful music, especially for the text sung by angels in the biblical narrative.”
Butler Chapel’s magnificent Zimmer pipe organ should make the concert experience even more enriching for the audience, Morrow added
