Campbell University wishes to announce the appointment of Thomas (Tom) P. Colletti as Director of the developing Physician Assistant Program at Campbell University. Mr. Colletti will work directly with Dr. Ronald W. Maddox, Professor and Dean of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy in this position.
Mr. Colletti is a graduate of the United States Public Health Service Physician Assistant Program in New York City. He earned his Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska and earned a BS in Biology from the City College of New York.
Mr. Colletti is an active educator, clinician and researcher. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and licensed by the North Carolina Medical Board. He is an Assistant Consulting Professor at Duke University Medical Center. Additionally, he is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, American Academy of Physician Assistants, the North Carolina Association of Physician Assistants, and the Physician Assistant Education Association.
Most recently, Mr. Colletti is the Physician Assistant (PA) in General Orthopedics at Triangle Orthopedics based in Durham, NC. He also serves as Lead preceptor for PA students. Tom has practiced Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Student Health, Urgent Care, and Sports Medicine. Before coming to Triangle Orthopedics, he served from 2001-2006 as the Academic Coordinator for the Duke University Physician Assistant Program.
According to President Jerry M. Wallace, “Mr. Colletti’s appointment is a key step in Campbell’s expansion in the health sciences. Our full intention is to provide in the Physician Assistant Program the same high caliber of student preparation for which the Campbell University School of Pharmacy is already well-known.”
Dean Maddox noted, “Tom will join the School of Pharmacy at a very important time. He will bring the necessary expertise, experience and leadership qualities to help develop our Physician Assistant program in areas of accreditation, education, research and clinical programs, but also to be an influential leader within the clinical community. I am already impressed with his goals, which are to support and build on the School’s national reputation for excellence in clinical care, expand the scope of existing outstanding research programs, and strengthen collaboration between clinical and research faculty at both department and institutional levels.”
Mr. Colletti’s recruitment was overseen by a search committee of faculty and staff. “I am grateful to the entire search committee for the time and careful thought invested in this important recruitment,” said Dean Maddox who chaired the committee. Mr. Colletti will assume responsibilities on August 13, 2009.

With undergraduates already enrolling at Campbell in preparation for application to the PA Program, the University will begin with the charter PA class in August of 2011.
