Campbell University Hosts “Local Public Administrators Forum”

Five local public administrators-four of whom are Campbell alumni-participated in an on-campus forum sponsored by the Department of Government, History & Justice, and the Public Affairs Club (PAC), on Wed., March 17, 2010.

Tommy Burns (Lillington Town Manager), David Hesslemyer (Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Moore, Johnston and Wayne Counties), Bruce Radford (Apex Town Manager), Scott Sauer (Harnett County Manager) and Bryan Thompson (Erwin Town Manager) met with Campbell University students to discuss careers in public management and Master in Public Administration (MPA) degrees.

“It was an informative, humorous and overall wonderful evening,” said Dr. John Mero, assistant professor of government. “We assembled almost 100 combined years of city and county management experience in one room, and the students in attendance benefitted from hearing an insider’s knowledge of public management. It was like attending a weekend seminar but in less than two hours.”

Mero, the organizer of the event, said “The local public managers want to make this a regular event and the students do too. I cannot emphasize enough how valuable this evening of information is to our students interested in pursuing terminal degrees in Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Health and even Business Administration.”

In the past two years, students majoring in Government have been admitted to MPA programs at the following universities:
