Campbell University Phi Beta Lambda Excels at State Conference

The Campbell University Phi Beta Lambda chapter has every reason to be proud of its performance at the recent North Carolina State Leadership Conference. The conference was held in Charlotte, March 29-31, 2007 at the Hilton University Place. The Campbell team consisted of twelve students representing a variety of majors including Trust, International Studies, Business Administration and Mass Communication. The students competed in a variety of different events against students from 30 other North Carolina colleges and universities. Some events such as Accounting Principles took the form of written multiple choice exams. Others like Public Speaking were presentations before a panel of judges. Yet other events such as Business Plan required students to research, develop and defend projects that took several months to complete. The good news is that the Campbell chapter’s efforts did not go unrewarded:1st Place Awards:• Business Ethics- Dexter Dodd & Shawn Mitchell• Business Plan- David Edwards, Zach McLawhorn & William Warren• Emerging Business Issues- Marsha McCoy & Zach McLawhorn• Public Speaking- Marsha McCoy2nd Place Awards:• Impromptu Speaking- David Edwards• Job Interview- William Warren• Business Communication- Cheri Wilder3rd Place Awards:• Business Communication- Robert Fox• Management Concepts- Craig Allen & Robert Fox6th Place Awards:• Economic Concepts- Syresh Zakaib• International Business -Syresh Zakaib7th Place Awards:• Marketing Analysis and Decision Making- Natalie Moore8th Place Awards• Human Resource Management- Natalie MoorePossibly the biggest news of all was that Campbell’s own David Edwards was elected to be the president of the North Carolina chapter of Phi Beta Lambda. As NC State President, David will represent the state at the 2007 national conference in Chicago, serve as spokesman for NCPBL for the next year and lead the strategic direction of the organization for the 2007-2008 year. He will also preside over the 2008 State Leadership Conference and a variety of other events. David is certainly earned this opportunity. He was treasurer of the Blue Ridge Community College chapter before he came to Campbell, and he is responsible for reorganizing the Campbell chapter which had been dormant for almost 30 years! He has been a relentless champion for PBL in Buies Creek and beyond and he has also won a number of competitive events over the last three years. The Campbell chapter certainly has reason to be proud of itself. We look forward with excitement to our opportunity this summer to represent CU on a national stage at the PBL National Leadership Conference in Chicago. PBL graciously takes donations and sponsorships to send our students to Chicago. If you would like to donate, please send checks or money orders to Campbell PBL, PO Box 2274, Buies Creek, NC 27506.
