Campbell University ROTC Cadet brings home award

Cadet Frankie Jackson, senior in the ROTC program at Campbell University, won the COMTek Leadership Award and the AUSA award (Association of the United States Army) at the 2007 Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) this summer. Cadets come from all over the country to attend the course, located in Ft. Lewis, Wash., which assesses their leadership skills.”The best part of the course was being able to show the skills I have learned on a national level,” said Jackson. “Locally everyone knows who you are, but when you are at LDAC it is more of a challenge. I wanted to make sure people knew where I was from. Campbell has the best program and we have the numbers to prove it.”During the junior year of ROTC program, cadets are trained in weapons, land navigation, patrolling and other military techniques. Those skills are evaluated during LDAC course, as they compete with cadets from other ROTC programs. 400-500 cadets are assigned to each of the 13 regiments. There are 13 regiments total.Jackson was in the 11th regiment. He received the COMTek Leadership award for being the top cadet in the 11th regiment and the AUSA award for being the number one cadet in the regiment.”I was very well prepared,” said Jackson. “All of my training at Campbell was focused on how to be successful. We train hard and vigorous here.”LTC(ret) John Robbins, assistant Professor of Military Science at Campbell University, said, “Frankie Jackson is such a talented Cadet. He has it all – great student, physically fit, takes charge, leads from the front – everything that we are looking for in a future warrior leader for the U.S. Army. We are extremely proud of Cadet Jackson and look for him to continue to lead the way as our Cadet Battalion Commander this year.”Jackson’s will graduate with a degree in Business Administration. He will be commissioned to the Army as a 2nd Lt. and hopes to become an Adjutant General.Photo- Cadet Jackson on the M16 Rifle Zero Range at Fort Liberty, North Carolina
