Campbell University is on solid financial ground, according to Forbes’ annual College Financial Grades assessment of more than 900 private, non-profit colleges and universities with enrollments of more than 500 students.
Campbell ranked sixth out of 34 private North Carolina schools with a B rating in a year when more than half all private schools nationally were graded C or worse, according to Forbes, and 27 percent received the lowest grade of D.
The grade provides “independent validation” of Campbell’s financial strength and long-term sustainability, said Sandy Connolly, vice president for business and chief financial officer.
“Earning a B rating is particularly meaningful at a time when many colleges and universities across the country are facing significant financial challenges,” Connolly said. “This recognition reflects disciplined financial stewardship, careful resource management and a commitment to making strategic investments that support our mission and strengthen the University’s long-term financial foundation.
“Most importantly, it demonstrates that Campbell is on solid financial ground, well-positioned to serve students for generations to come and focused on building an even stronger future.”
Forbes revamped its analysis for the 2026 list, using new data from Perspective Data Science, which “zeroes in on a college’s true liquidity.”
“We are certainly pleased by the positive acknowledgement of our institutional financial health by Forbes,” shared Campbell University President Dr. William Downs. “This speaks volumes to those who are considering attending Campbell or investing in our people and programs. That said, nobody here is satisfied with a B grade or with coming in No. 6 in anything. We will most assuredly be building on this robust financial foundation to further strengthen our position as we grow into the future.”
