Campbell University track still on schedule

Campbell University’s new track is well underway. The land is cleared and grated and the oval shape which will hold 8 lanes can clearly be seen.

“The heavy rains throughout the weeks have slowed the progress of the track down, but it is scheduled to be completed by the middle of February,” said Dave Martin, director of the physical plant at Campbell University.

Ground was broken on the $1.2 million dollar track facility in September. The 400- meter track is located just off Hwy. 27, behind the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center and in front of the Nathan Johnson Natatorium.

The new track features a long jump runway, high jump area, pole vault runway, discus, shot put and hammer throwing areas. The surface of the track will be International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) certified complete with a synthetic polyurethane system giving it a durable, higher performance surface.

The track will be accessible to the university community in off hours.
