Campbell University’s women’s flag football team places in national tournament

Ready. Set. Hike. Campbell University’s women’s flag football team, Chaos, placed second in the National Flag Football Tournament held in New Orleans, LA, which was sponsored by The University of New Orleans on Dec. 31. The 10 member team is coached by Jeff Paszkiewicz. The final game was against Florida A&M, and the score was 19 -21. “I am proud of them because no other Campbell flag football team, men or women, have ever gotten to the championship game,” said Paszkiewicz. During regular season, the team plays on campus from Aug.-Nov. The regional tournament was held at UNC-Wilmington in November. The National Tournament was Dec 28-31. “Words cannot describe how I feel,” said Andy Shell, Director of Campus Recreation. “This was the first year I didn’t go with them as a chaperone, but the hourly phone updates from kept me bulging with pride because of their success. Second place is fantastic, but I hate that they were only two points shy of their ultimate goal, the National Championship.” Chaos has received a bid to play at the World Cup of Flag Football in Costa Rica over spring break. The team is made up of undergraduate, graduate and staff members. Team members, Hannah Bazemore, Megan Marler and Allie Frakes were named All-Americans, and Heather Nethercutt was Defensive MVP. “They have brought a great deal of pride to the university and the department,” said Shell. “We will be displaying some type of signage when the new intramural sports complex is complete.”Photo Copy- Campbell University’s women’s flag football team, Chaos, placed second in the National Flag Football Tournament held in New Orleans.
