Campbell welcomes Haehl as Dean of Students

An educator with over two decades of student life experience, Dr. Sherry Haehl has joined Campbell University as Dean of Students.

Haehle comes to Campbell from Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio where she also served as Dean of Students for four years.  Prior to Bluffton, she was Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Southwestern College in Phoenix, Ariz.

Haehl says she looks forward to enhancing the total student experience on Campbell’s campus.

“There is a rich body of knowledge that attests that students who are completely engaged in co-curricular student life are more successful students, they become better leaders, and eventually become successful alumni,” said Haehl. “I will be leading a team to develop a strong student life program to help students engage in and out of the classroom and excel in whatever they choose to do.”

As Dean of Students, Haehl will oversee key student life programs, such as Student Support Services, University Counseling, Residential Living, Community Living and Standards, Campus Recreation, Student Activities and Health Services.

However, Haehl says building relationships with students are an important part of a successful student life program – calling herself the “Chief Student Advocate.”

“I want to see every student become successful, to remove the barriers and see students grow,” she said.

Dr. Dennis Bazemore, vice president for Student Life, says he’s excited to have Dr. Haehl join the leadership team in Student Life.

“She brings 20 years of college work experience, education in student life and special gifts all of which will add to the enrichment of the campus life experience for our students,” said Bazemore.  “I look forward to her work and her leadership.”

Haehl obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University at Bloomington in 1987 and 1989, respectively. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Spalding University in 1996.

Haehl and her husband Brian plan to live in Buies Creek.
