Campbell welcomes new director of Student Activities

Christopher O’Connor, of Durham, N.C., has joined the Campbell University staff as director of Student Activities. Prior to coming to Campbell, O’Connor worked as a graduate assistant at The Center for Academic Integrity in Durham, N.C., where he helped plan and develop an international conference, maintain databases and design and produce the center’s newsletter and journal. O’Connor received a bachelor’s degree in history and communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a master’s degree in higher education administration (Student Affairs track) at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. In addition to his work at the Center for Academic Integrity, O’Connor served as office manager of Carmichael Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., where he coordinated physical education and recreational activities, updated and maintained the Web site and developed promotional materials for the facility. One of his goals as director of Student Activities at Campbell is to bring student focus to the program. “I want to base the program around the students, to let them come up with the ideas, not me,” he said. “I feel like students will experience more growth and development this way, while enhancing the Campbell experience by providing exciting activities that will challenge and entertain at the same time.” Active in youth activities, O’Connor served as a youth leader at Living Hope Community Church and as president and vice president of the University of North Carolina Rock Climbing Club. Already scheduled for “Welcome Week,” August 19-26 at Campbell, is television’s Dennis Haskins, who played the principal in the popular teen series, “Saved by the Bell.” Student Activities for Campbell University may be accessed online by clicking on “Student Life” on Campbell’s home page at https://www.campbell.edu.Photo Copy: Chris O’Connor, Campbell University’s new director of Student Activities.
